Project Overview
McCormick Rankin Corporation (MRC) has been retained by the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) to undertake a Preliminary Design Study and Class Environmental Assessment for improvements to Highway 60 in the two following sections:
- Section #1 Highway 60 / Highway 11 interchange to Muskoka Road 3.
- Section #2 Muskoka Road 23 to Highway 35.
The study limits of Highway 60 are located within the District Municipality of Muskoka, the Town of Huntsville and the Township of Lake of Bays, as shown in the key plan.

Highway 60 is a 2-lane highway from the Highway 11 interchange to Muskoka Road 3 where it expands to a 4-lane highway up to Deerhurst Drive and then returns to a 2-lane highway. Highway 60 is also the major access corridor for Algonquin Provincial Park, where it is designated as the “Frank McDougall Parkway”.
The study is being carried out to identify operational and capacity needs, evaluate alternatives and recommend a plan to address the future needs of Highway 60 within the two sections noted above.
